Dr. Erin Cutler
Dr. Erin Cutler’s Biography
I was born in Cheboygan, Michigan, but consider myself a Kentuckian, as my family moved there when I was only two years old. In high school, I remember considering what career I would like to pursue, and thought that dental hygiene would be a good fit for me. I always loved going to the dentist and began shadowing my childhood dentist in high school. I started undergraduate at Western Kentucky University in 2001, and by the end of my first year decided to change my major to Chemistry, and pursue dental school. In 2005 I graduated from WKU with a Bachelors of Science in chemistry, and in the fall began dental school at University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. I was part of the first class at UK to have more women than men. During my dental education, I always enjoyed volunteering on our mobile clinics, or at a local free community clinic.
In the summer between my 3rd and 4th years of dental school, I did an internship with the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin in Keshena. My sister lives in Ripon, so I thought it would be fun to do an internship close to her. This was my first experience living and working in Wisconsin, and it left a great impression on me. I remember every lunch, I would hang my hammock between two cedar trees on a hill and enjoy the beautiful blue skies and fresh breeze.
After I graduated in 2009 with my Doctor of Dental Medicine, I began working in a small town in Paris, Kentucky where a lot of thoroughbreds are raised for racing. I worked there about a year and a half before deciding to make the most important move of my life. I wanted to experience life in a different place than where I grew up. I moved to Ashland in 2011 and began working with The Lakes Community Clinic, where I served mostly children. Just one look at Lake Superior when I interviewed was enough to convince me that this was the right place for me!
After about 6 months in Ashland, I was recruited to go to Costa Rica on vacation, where I met my future husband. We have 2 small children. I am so happy to be part of this community and honored to be dentist to so many incredible people. When I’m not working, I’m busy being a mother. I also enjoy biking and hiking, and have a creative side of making art. I’ve always loved dentistry for marrying my love of art and science.
